Obbo-Ayegunle, Eda Oniyo Communities Trade Blame Over Fresh Land Dispute Attack

The Obbo-Ayegunle community in Kwara State and Eda Oniyo community in Ekiti State have traded accusations over a fresh attack linked to a longstanding dispute over land ownership.

The Obbo Descendants Forum alleged that residents of Eda Oniyo invaded Obbo farmlands on August 19, 2026, and threatened farmers over the disputed land.

The forum’s President, Ade Ogun, appealed to the Ekiti State Government to intervene and prevent further hostilities, warning that Obbo people would defend themselves if the alleged attacks continued.

However, the National President of Eda Oniyo Progressives, Dr Rufus Ajayi, rejected the allegation and claimed that Obbo-Ayegunle residents were responsible for the attack.

Ajayi alleged that about 35 people armed with cutlasses and guns invaded Eda Oniyo territory and attempted to drive residents from the area.

He maintained that the disputed land belonged to Eda Oniyo, arguing that Obbo-Ayegunle people were allowed to settle there by their forefathers but were now attempting to claim ownership.

Both communities have called on the Ekiti State Government to intervene, as tensions over the disputed territory continue.

The state government’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), was reportedly informed of the incident but could not be reached for comment.
