Isaac Fayose laments abandonment by politicians he supported

Businessman Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has lamented what he described as abandonment by politicians he supported during past elections.

Fayose said he had made personal and financial sacrifices for several political figures but was later left to face his challenges alone.

He spoke in a video posted on his Instagram page on Friday, where he described himself as “a lonely voice in the wilderness.”

“Nigeria is a bad country. Very bad. I’m now like an orphan. I’m now like a lonely voice in the wilderness,” he said.

Fayose recalled his involvement in his brother’s legal battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2018, saying he confronted the then acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, over the matter.

He said the case had continued to affect him, despite his brother’s subsequent political activities.

“Up till today, they still rope me into a matter that I am still going to court for. That my brother now has taken an appointment. His child is about to be a member of the House of Assembly in Ekiti. I’m now on my own, facing my problem,” he said.

Fayose also recounted his involvement in the 2026 Ekiti governorship election, saying he cut short his mourning after the death of his wife to support the PDP candidate, Wole Oluyede.

According to him, Oluyede had appealed to him to help reclaim the state, prompting him to return and spend his personal resources on the campaign.

However, Fayose alleged that Oluyede later distanced himself from him.

He also expressed disappointment over what he described as changing political alliances involving politicians he had supported.

On the August 15 Osun governorship election, Fayose recalled his involvement in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaigns in both 2022 and 2026.

He said he responded to Adeleke’s request to support his re-election bid despite being in Australia at the time.

However, Fayose expressed disappointment that Adeleke travelled to Abuja after his victory to present his certificate of return to President Bola Tinubu.

“Six days after, the governor is in Abuja, showing his certificate, his return certificate, to the President. It’s like I’m alone. What a pity,” he said.

Adeleke won the August 15 election with 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

Fayose also criticised what he described as the transactional nature of Nigerian politics and vote buying, claiming that he had rejected money and a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon offered to him during previous elections because of his commitment to his supporters.

He, however, lamented that some voters still accepted money in exchange for their votes.

“They came to meet me, they gave me money, I said I don’t want. They gave me G-Wagon, I said I don’t want. I want my people to go. Even the people I was fighting for, election day, they will sell their vote again,” he said.

Fayose concluded by expressing frustration over what he described as his isolation from the political figures he once supported.

“It’s now like I’m the only one seeing the rubbish going on in my country. I am now alone, now looking like a zombie. It’s lonely at the top,” he said.
