Aregbesola to Adeleke: Now, Unite Osun, Govern for All

Former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, urging him to use the renewed mandate to unite the state and govern with fairness, humility and responsibility.

In a statement signed by him, Aregbesola said, “I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as the Governor of Osun following the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.” He said the people had spoken through the ballot and their decision must be respected.

Aregbesola described elections as moments when citizens exercise their sovereign right to choose those they wish to entrust with the responsibility of governing them, stressing that the outcome should now mark the beginning of a new phase for the state.

He urged Adeleke to regard the victory as a renewed mandate to unite Osun, deepen development and govern fairly, irrespective of political affiliation.

“The task before the governor is now greater than the contest that has just ended,” he said, urging Adeleke to demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility to every citizen.

The former governor also commended the people of Osun for their participation in the electoral process and what he described as their political sophistication.

Aregbesola appealed to political actors, supporters and citizens to allow the state to move forward in peace and unity, while calling on the governor to extend “the hand of fellowship” to all political tendencies.

Turning to members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aregbesola expressed appreciation for their steadfastness, courage and commitment during the election campaign.

He particularly saluted ADC members and supporters for standing behind the party’s candidate, Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam, popularly known as Iwaloye, describing their loyalty as demonstrated through months of sacrifice, mobilisation, advocacy and peaceful participation.

Aregbesola also commended Salaam for the maturity with which he received the election outcome, saying the candidate had conducted himself with dignity throughout the contest.

According to him, Salaam’s campaign reflected the belief that politics should be driven by “ideas, competence, character and service to the people.”

He urged ADC members, supporters, volunteers, campaigners, agents and well-wishers not to be discouraged by the electoral outcome, but to remain committed to the future of Osun.

“Political journeys are often longer than individual electoral contests,” Aregbesola said, urging the ADC family to remain united, disciplined and hopeful.

He further called on the party’s supporters to preserve the relationships forged during the campaign and continue to engage constructively, hold government accountable and provide responsible alternatives where necessary.

Aregbesola said the values of good governance, accountability, justice, competence and service to the people remained worthy of continued commitment.

He concluded by wishing Adeleke wisdom, good health and success as he prepares to begin another term in office, adding: “Power is responsibility.”
