Kebbi gov creates new district, appoints traditional rulers

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of a new district comprising eight village areas in Dandi Local Government Area of the state.

 

The governor also approved the creation of a new village headship in Augie Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and improve grassroots administration.

 

The approvals were contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari, in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

 

According to the commissioner, the newly created Buma District was carved out of Dolekaina District in Dandi LGA, with Salisu Hakimi appointed as its District Head.

 

The district comprises Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara Village Areas.

 

The governor also approved the appointment of Nasiru Umar Maizabo as the Village Head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District, Augie LGA.

 

Dutsinmari said the appointments were made in accordance with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which confer powers relating to the creation of districts and appointment of district heads.

 

The commissioner urged the newly appointed traditional rulers to demonstrate discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication in carrying out their responsibilities.

 

He said the appointments were based on the appointees’ past records and assured them of the support and cooperation of the governor and the ministry.

 

The development is expected to strengthen traditional institutions and improve grassroots governance in the affected communities.
