Court Gives Police Two Weeks to Probe Fadahunsi Over Alleged ‘Kill Accord’ Remark

A Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has directed the police to investigate a criminal complaint against the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, over alleged comments calling for the killing of members of the Accord Party.

The Presiding Magistrate II, Farida Ibrahim, directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja, to investigate the complaint and submit its report to the court within two weeks.

The directive was contained in a letter dated August 13, 2026, signed by the Registrar of the Magistrate Court, Abdulraham Yusuf.

The letter, titled, “Direct Criminal Complaint Between Pelumi Olajengbesi and Senator Francis Fadahunsi,” was issued pursuant to Section 89(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

The court directed the police to take “necessary action” and attached a copy of the criminal complaint for investigation.

The complaint was filed by Pelumi Olajengbesi, campaign spokesman for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following a viral video in which Fadahunsi was allegedly heard making comments considered capable of inciting violence against members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Olajengbesi had accused the senator of making statements that could encourage violence against Accord supporters in the build-up to the August 15 poll.

The latest development came barely a day after Olajengbesi threatened to institute a N10 billion defamation and injurious falsehood suit against Fadahunsi over separate allegations made during television interviews.

In a letter dated August 12, Olajengbesi’s lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, demanded the immediate retraction of statements allegedly made by Fadahunsi during interviews on Viable TV on July 2 and Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.

According to the lawyer, Fadahunsi allegedly accused Olajengbesi of sponsoring thugs and members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups.

The lawyer said the senator also questioned Olajengbesi’s identity and alleged that he was “from somewhere in Ogun State,” while accusing him of using thugs and members of the two cult groups.

Olajengbesi, however, denied the allegations, describing them as false, defamatory and injurious to his reputation.

He also denied ever sponsoring, financing, supporting or patronising any cult group or its members for criminal or political activities.

The lawyer demanded that Fadahunsi retract the alleged statements through the same media platforms where they were made and issue an “unequivocal and unreserved public apology.”

He gave the senator 24 hours to comply, warning that failure to do so would lead to legal action seeking N10 billion in general and aggravated damages for defamation and injurious falsehood.

The police investigation into the alleged inciting comments now places the matter within the hands of law enforcement authorities, as political parties and candidates intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s election.

The development also comes amid growing calls by political stakeholders, civil society groups and professional bodies for restraint, peaceful conduct and strict adherence to the rule of law before, during and after the Osun governorship election.
