Accord expresses confidence in Adeleke’s re-election, urges neutrality

The Maxwell Mgbudem-led faction of the Accord Party has expressed confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, urging security agencies and electoral officials to remain neutral.

 

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, stated this in a telephone interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

 

Omorogbe attributed the party’s confidence to what he described as Adeleke’s developmental achievements during his first term, saying the party was not intimidated by the deployment of political and security machinery to the state.

 

“The level of our preparedness for the Osun election is high and dynamic. God’s hand is in it, and the victory is for Sen. Ademola Adeleke, with the good works he has done in Osun,” he said.

 

He said the election was not about Adeleke alone but about the people of Osun and the opposition, insisting that the electorate’s votes would determine the outcome.

 

“We are persuaded as a party that the victory is sure. The voice of the people will speak, and the votes of the people will count,” Omorogbe said.

 

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a free, fair and peaceful election and announce the results promptly.

 

“Our expectation is for the election to be free, fair and peaceful. Anything outside that, we are not concerned about it,” he said.

 

Omorogbe also warned against attempts to disrupt the electoral process or intimidate voters, stressing that no political ambition was worth the life of any resident.

 

He called on the police and other security agencies to remain neutral and adhere strictly to electoral rules.

 

“Any foul play in the election will be resisted because the mandate and interest of the people is in Adeleke and the wish of the people is for him to be re-elected,” he said.

 

The party urged eligible voters to remain calm, reject vote-buying and turn out en masse to exercise their franchise.

 

Omorogbe also called on residents to support Adeleke for a second term, saying this would enable the governor to consolidate his administration’s development programmes.

 

He expressed confidence that Adeleke’s supporters would celebrate his re-election across the state on Sunday if the election was conducted peacefully and transparently.
