Tension as IPAC Moves Osun Chapter Election to Abuja Over Security Fears

The national leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has relocated the election of its Osun State chapter executive from Osogbo to Abuja, citing security concerns ahead of the exercise.

The decision, announced in a letter dated August 5, 2026, was conveyed to chairmen of registered political parties in Osun State and all contestants expected to participate in the election.

The letter, signed by the National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Aare Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, on behalf of the IPAC national leadership, stated that the election will now take place at the council’s National Headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by 10:00 a.m.

According to the notice, the relocation became necessary due to what the council described as the prevailing security situation in Osun State.

All state chairmen of registered political parties and contestants were directed to be present at the venue, while urging them to make the necessary travel arrangements ahead of the poll.

The development comes just days after the inauguration of a rival executive committee led by Dr. Tosin Odeyemi in Osun, a move that has further heightened the leadership crisis within the state’s chapter of the council.

IPAC, the umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, has yet to provide further details on the security concerns that informed the decision.
