Osun 2026: APC alleges attack on Oyebamiji’s wife’s convoy, NURTW chairman injured

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the convoy of the wife of its governorship candidate in Osun State, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, was attacked on Saturday in Ede South Local Government Area.

 

The incident reportedly occurred at Alajue Ward 2 after Dr. Oyebamiji concluded a voter engagement programme ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

 

According to reports, Dr. Oyebamiji and the wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Princess Adebukola Adereti, were leaving the event at about 7 p.m. when armed hoodlums allegedly attacked vehicles in their convoy.

 

The wives of the APC candidates were said to have escaped unhurt.

 

However, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, reportedly sustained serious head injuries during the attack.

 

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Kolawole Salami, condemned the alleged attack and called on security agencies to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.

 

Salami said the incident occurred around Alajue and Sekona Garage while the APC leaders were returning from a political programme in the area.

 

He alleged that some miscreants sympathetic to the ruling Accord Party might have been responsible for the attack.

 

The local government chairman urged the police and other security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

 

The allegations had not been independently verified as of the time of filing this report, and there was no immediate reaction from the Accord Party or the Osun State Police Command.
