2027: Makinde best opposition presidential candidate, says Lagos APM

The Lagos State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has endorsed Oyo State Governor and the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as the most suitable opposition flagbearer for the 2027 general election.

 

In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, the APM said Makinde possesses the leadership qualities, competence and national appeal needed to unite the opposition and offer Nigerians a credible alternative.

 

Kazeem said the party’s position was based on Makinde’s record in governance, arguing that his administration in Oyo State has delivered improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and security while maintaining prudent fiscal management.

 

According to him, Nigerians need a president with proven governance experience and the ability to manage public resources responsibly.

 

“Governor Makinde has, over the years, built a reputation as a leader who governs with prudence, transparency and measurable results,” Kazeem said.

 

“He has consistently shown that public resources can be managed responsibly without unnecessary extravagance. He has proven that development can be driven by planning rather than propaganda.”

 

The party also described Makinde as a bridge-builder capable of attracting support across political and regional divides, saying his consensus-building approach makes him well-suited to lead a broad opposition coalition.

 

“Unlike politicians whose appeal is restricted to one geographical region, Governor Makinde possesses the temperament and credibility to attract support across Nigeria,” Kazeem added.

 

He said the APM in Lagos was already strengthening its grassroots structures to support the opposition coalition ahead of the election.

 

According to him, the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos, Prince Laja Adeoye, is coordinating mobilisation efforts across the state’s 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), with a target of delivering more than five million votes for the coalition’s presidential candidate.

 

Kazeem said the strategy includes expanding polling unit structures, mobilising youths and women, encouraging voter registration and Permanent Voter Card collection, deploying digital campaign platforms, training election agents and engaging community-based organisations.

 

He added that the campaign would focus on issues rather than personalities, with the aim of restoring public confidence in governance.
