Tinubu to announce salary increase for military personnel – Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu will soon announce a new salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve their welfare.

 

Musa made this known in a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, describing the planned increment as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to rewarding the sacrifices of military personnel.

 

The minister recalled that during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, the monthly salary of soldiers was increased from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000, adding that efforts are underway to secure another upward review.

 

“I want to state here that a few weeks ago, I mentioned that soldiers are now receiving ₦100,000. When I was Chief of Defence Staff, soldiers were receiving ₦49,000.

 

“About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to ₦100,000, and that was achieved. We are, however, making further efforts to increase it again,” Musa said.

 

According to the minister, the proposed salary review forms part of broader initiatives by the Tinubu administration to enhance the welfare, motivation and operational effectiveness of members of the Armed Forces.

 

He said the President is expected to formally announce the new salary package in due course.
