The party said the move is part of its preparations to coordinate campaign activities and mobilise support for its candidate in the forthcoming election.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, citing a notice signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
According to the statement, the campaign council will be chaired by Governor Uzodimma, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
The council’s co-chairmen are Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
The statement added that Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, will serve as Deputy Chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will serve as Secretary.
The APC said the campaign council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, and other party stakeholders from across the country.
To strengthen its campaign operations, the party also constituted specialised sub-committees covering election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities, and secretariat functions.
The APC disclosed that the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja, ahead of the Osun governorship election.
