Burna Boy Makes History As First African Artiste To Top Billboard Global 200

Nigerian Afrobeats star, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has become the first African artiste to top the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart.

The Grammy-winning singer achieved the milestone after his World Cup collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira, titled “Dai Dai”, climbed to number one on the chart this week.

The song also topped the Billboard Global 200 Excluding United States chart, while moving 12 places to a new peak of number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Meanwhile, another Nigerian artiste, Tems, continues to make waves internationally as her song “What You Need” rose five places to number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after 15 weeks on the chart.

The track recently reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban radio airplay chart.

Tems is also recognised as the first solo African artiste to achieve the feat, further highlighting the growing global influence of Nigerian music.
