The council, in a statement issued by its Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, said the attack, which resulted in the death of a teacher and the abduction of students and teachers, underscored the urgent need for stronger measures against terrorism.
NSCIA described the repeated killing and abduction of schoolchildren as a “despicable crime against humanity”, expressing concern that victims of previous attacks in Borno and Oyo states remain in captivity.
The council said the terrorists exploited Lassa’s market day to gain access to the community before carrying out the attack, noting that the development showed the evolving tactics of criminal groups and the need to address security gaps.
It urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance, coordination among security agencies and community-based early warning systems to prevent future attacks.
The Islamic council also cited Enugu State’s technology-driven security approach as a model that other states could consider in improving their security systems.
While commending the Armed Forces, particularly troops of Operation HADIN KAI, for rescuing some of the abducted victims, NSCIA called for continued efforts until all victims are safely reunited with their families.
The council also paid tribute to a soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force who died during the rescue operation, offering condolences to the Borno State Government, the school authorities and affected families.
Reaffirming its stance against terrorism, NSCIA stated, “Boko Haram and ISWAP are enemies of Islam and humanity.”
It stressed that individuals and groups involved in killing innocent citizens, abducting children and attacking schools do not represent the teachings of Islam.
The council called on security agencies to ensure that terrorists are apprehended, prosecuted and punished in accordance with the law to achieve lasting peace and security in Nigeria.
