According to the Accountant-General, salaries for May and June were duly prepared, funded, processed and paid, insisting that reports alleging non-payment do not reflect the true situation.
He explained that the few workers yet to receive their salaries were affected by payroll validation, staff verification and compliance requirements associated with the ongoing State Staff Identification Number (SSID) registration exercise.
Mallam Sani stated that the SSID exercise is a government reform designed to strengthen payroll integrity, eliminate irregularities and ensure that only duly verified employees receive salaries.
He stressed that the Office of the Accountant-General remains solely responsible for preparing the monthly payroll, generating salary schedules and statutory deductions, verifying payroll data, securing approvals and funding the payroll before salaries are released.
The Accountant-General also clarified that the engagement of a payroll consultant is not a new policy, explaining that the consultant only provides the technology platform and technical support for electronic payroll processing and does not determine beneficiaries or authorise salary payments.
He added that the Ministry of Finance continues to perform its statutory oversight role to ensure transparency, accountability and prudent management of public funds throughout the payroll process.
Mallam Sani appealed to workers who are yet to complete the SSID registration to do so promptly in order to avoid delays in salary payments.
He also called on organised labour to support the ongoing payroll reforms by encouraging members to comply with the verification requirements.
The Accountant-General reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging with organised labour and other stakeholders to resolve genuine payroll-related concerns, assuring workers that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to strengthening payroll processes and ensuring the timely payment of salaries and statutory deductions.
