Terror Has Reached My Doorstep, Sponsors Still Walk Free — Adeboye Raises Alarm

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, declaring that terrorism and kidnapping have spread beyond the North and are now threatening communities in the South.

Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., on June 23, Adeboye lamented that the country’s insecurity had deteriorated to the point where it had “reached my doorstep.”

According to the revered cleric, terrorism has continued to expand despite years of military operations, warning that the menace is no longer confined to northern Nigeria.

“Things have gone far worse than before. The terrorism and kidnapping that were in the North have now reached my doorstep in the South. The sponsors are known, yet they are still walking about freely,” he said.

Despite his concerns, Adeboye defended President Bola Tinubu against criticisms that his administration has not done enough to combat insecurity.

He argued that the President had fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by issuing directives to the nation’s security agencies, insisting that the effectiveness of implementation rests with the military hierarchy.

“You don’t expect the Commander-in-Chief to wear military uniform and go to the battlefield himself,” Adeboye stated, drawing a comparison with world leaders who issue military orders without personally participating in combat.

The cleric further disclosed that he had personally discussed Nigeria’s security challenges with President Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

He revealed that he advised the President to issue a 90-day ultimatum to military commanders to decisively crush terrorism or vacate their positions.

“I told him to give the military leadership 90 days to wipe out this menace or resign. The sponsors should also be dealt with,” he said.

Adeboye alleged that those financing terrorism include influential politicians and wealthy businessmen, urging the Federal Government to identify and prosecute them.

“If those supplying arms, ammunition and financial support to these criminals are not brought to justice, the insecurity will continue,” he warned.

The respected cleric also appealed to the United States and other members of the international community to support Nigeria’s efforts in the fight against terrorism, stressing that restoring security remains critical to the country’s peace, unity and development.
