In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Fashola’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to progressive governance.
The President described the former minister as an accomplished legal practitioner and patriotic Nigerian whose public service had made a significant impact, particularly in Lagos State.
He also commended Fashola’s loyalty to the ideals of good governance, integrity in public office, intellectual depth and dedication to nation-building.
Tinubu recalled that Fashola served as his Chief of Staff between 2003 and 2006 before succeeding him as Governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015.
According to the President, Fashola consolidated the gains of progressive governance through reforms in infrastructure, transportation, security, education, healthcare, environmental management and public sector administration.
“Fashola’s commitment to excellence, which helped to transform Lagos into a model of innovation and sustainable urban development, will continue to signpost him as an outstanding governor and leader,” Tinubu said.
The President also acknowledged Fashola’s service in the Federal Executive Council between 2015 and 2023, where he oversaw the ministries of Works, Power and Housing.
“We must also commend his dedicated service in the Federal cabinet between 2015 and 2023, when he took charge of critical ministries of Works, Power and Housing,” he added.
