Maraban Jos killing: Kaduna to support victim’s family, says Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged that the state government will take responsibility for the family of the late Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, who was killed by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.

 

The governor made the promise on Saturday during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family, assuring them that the government would provide for her husband and four children, including sponsoring the children’s education.

 

Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was brutally killed and her body set ablaze by a mob two weeks ago after she was accused of attempting to kidnap children.

 

Speaking during the visit, Sani condemned the mob action and vowed that everyone involved in the killing would face justice.

 

He explained that he was away on an official assignment when the incident occurred but had directed senior government officials to visit the family on his behalf.

 

“I am working with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Security Service and other relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter,” he said.

 

The governor disclosed that investigations had led to the prosecution of several suspects.

 

“As we speak, about 41 persons have been charged with culpable homicide. Another 41 were investigated, while 30 suspects have also been charged with unlawful assembly,” he said.

 

Sani stressed that all those found culpable, regardless of their status, would face the full weight of the law to deter future incidents of mob justice.

 

He also called for a thorough investigation into the conduct of security personnel during the incident, particularly the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Maraban Jos, to determine whether there was any complicity.
