The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji.
According to the statement, Osunlakin died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, prompting the university authorities to take immediate steps to maintain calm and order on the campus.
The university described the incident as a tragic loss and expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, fellow students and other stakeholders.
“The University Management extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the student community and all stakeholders affected by this unfortunate incident,” the statement said.
UNIOSUN explained that the indefinite closure followed a review of the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and was necessary to allow tensions and emotions among students to subside.
The management said the closure would also enable the institution to conduct a comprehensive assessment of healthcare facilities, medical personnel and water supply systems at the campus.
According to the university, the review is part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges affecting the Ifetedo Campus and improve conditions for students and staff.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and well-being of members of the university community, assuring that a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the incident would be carried out.
It added that appropriate measures would be implemented to prevent a recurrence.
“May Almighty God grant the family of the deceased, the students and the entire University community the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
The university appealed to students, parents and other stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate with the management as efforts continue to address identified concerns and restore normal academic activities.
