World Cup 2026: Haiti, Türkiye eliminated after second straight defeats

Haiti and Türkiye have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering their second consecutive defeats in the group stage.

Five-time champions Brazil secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti in a Group C match played in Philadelphia, United States, ending the Caribbean nation’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring with a close-range finish after Vinicius Junior’s effort was parried before adding his second with a powerful strike from inside the penalty area.

Vinicius Junior sealed the victory with Brazil’s third goal deep into first-half stoppage time.

The result leaves Haiti bottom of Group C without a point from two matches and with a goal difference of minus four. Their final group game against Morocco will now be a formality.

Brazil moved to the top of the group on goal difference ahead of Morocco.

In Group D, Türkiye also crashed out after a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

Matias Galarza scored after just 64 seconds to register the fastest goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and hand Paraguay a crucial victory.

Despite mounting late pressure and playing against 10 men after Paraguay received a stoppage-time red card, Türkiye failed to find an equaliser.

The defeat leaves Türkiye without a point after two matches, confirming their exit from the tournament with one group game remaining.

While Paraguay remain in contention for a place in the knockout stage, Haiti’s return to the World Cup for the first time since 1974 ended at the group stage, while Türkiye’s campaign concluded earlier than expected despite entering the tournament with high expectations.
