Ekiti poll: One hospitalised as APC, ADC supporters clash over alleged vote buying

One person was reportedly injured on Saturday after supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) clashed over alleged vote buying during the Ekiti State governorship election.

The incident occurred at Unit 4, Ward 2, Ilawe-Ekiti, where voting was briefly disrupted before security operatives restored order.

The injured person, said to be an ADC supporter, reportedly sustained a head injury during the clash and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Speaking after casting his vote, the ADC governorship candidate, Dare Bejide, alleged that the violence erupted after his supporters confronted individuals over the alleged distribution of cash to voters.

He claimed that an APC chieftain arrived at the polling unit with money intended for vote buying, leading to a confrontation involving party supporters and security personnel.

Bejide also alleged that one of his aides was assaulted during the incident and taken to hospital.

Despite the disruption, he commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the election, saying voting had proceeded peacefully before the clash.

According to him, calm was restored after additional security personnel were deployed to the area, allowing the electoral process to continue under tight security.

The APC had not responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
