President Bola Tinubu has warned criminal elements across the country that they will have no hiding place following the killing of notorious bandit leader Ibrahim Bastuji by Nigerian troops in Kogi State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the operation as a major blow to criminal networks operating in Kogi and neighbouring states.
Tinubu commended the Armed Forces and other security agencies for the successful operation, saying Nigeria would not surrender any part of its territory to criminals.
“Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place. This success reflects the renewed determination of our security forces to secure every inch of our land,” the President said.
He also praised security operatives for rescuing Hajiya Amina Abubakar, widow of the late former Chief of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd.), who reportedly died in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State.
The President assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to equip and support security agencies to combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, while urging citizens to provide credible information to security authorities.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) condemned the death of Maj. Gen. Abubakar in captivity, describing it as evidence of the Federal Government’s failure to adequately protect Nigerians.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, the party called for stronger action against insecurity and urged the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of all persons still in captivity across the country.
