ADC deregistration: ‘Judgement represents dangerous tactics by Tinubu’s administration’ – Atiku

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the judgment seeking to deregister the ADC and other opposition parties, describing it as an assault on constitutional democracy.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the ruling should alarm Nigerians who believe in political pluralism and the rule of law.

He argued that the judgment was delivered despite a subsisting Court of Appeal order that had allegedly stayed further proceedings in the matter.

Atiku described the development as a “dangerous escalation of authoritarian tactics” and a breach of constitutional governance, warning that disregard for court orders threatens legal certainty in the country.

He further alleged that the ruling reflects a broader pattern of political persecution aimed at weakening opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the government appears more focused on political consolidation than addressing insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and rising poverty.

Atiku urged members of the ADC and supporters of democracy not to be discouraged, insisting that the party would pursue all lawful and constitutional means to challenge the judgment.

He also called on the judiciary, civil society and the media to remain vigilant in defending democratic institutions, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy must not be undermined for political advantage.
