Police Arrest Three Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms and Charms in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and political thugs, recovering firearms, ammunition, charms and other dangerous weapons during separate operations across the state.

 

The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan.

 

According to the statement, the suspects were identified as Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez, 27; Omolara Ezekiel, 28; and Babatunde Azeez, 32.

 

Items recovered from the suspects included three English Beretta pistols, one live round of ammunition, a cut-to-size gun, two live cartridges, four cutlasses, three axes and assorted charms.

 

The police said the operation began on May 22, 2026, when a patrol team attached to the Ikirun Area Command intercepted Abdulazeez while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation.

 

According to the command, the suspect was riding an unregistered motorcycle when he was searched and found in possession of two Beretta pistols, an axe and charms.

 

The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

 

Police said the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and claimed he was on his way to deliver the weapons to another suspected member before his arrest.

 

Further intelligence-led investigations led to the arrest of Omolara Ezekiel and Babatunde Azeez, as well as the recovery of an additional cut-to-size gun, a Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition.

 

Searches conducted at the suspects’ residences also led to the recovery of four cutlasses, two axes and two live cartridges, according to the police.

 

The command said investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other suspected members linked to the group.

 

Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan warned political thugs, cultists and other criminal elements against engaging in activities capable of disrupting public peace.

 

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to combat crime and maintain security across Osun State.
