Expecting 84-year-old Adeboye to lead protests makes no sense – Bamiloye

Founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, has defended the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, amid reactions to the cleric’s comments on Nigeria’s security challenges.

Adeboye had sparked public debate after resharing a video in which he urged the Federal Government to give security chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to end terrorism or resign. The video, originally recorded in November 2025, resurfaced amid claims that the cleric had opposed planned protests against insecurity and was supporting a political agenda.

Reacting on his official Instagram page, Bamiloye accused some bloggers and critics of misrepresenting Adeboye’s position, insisting that the cleric has consistently spoken against insecurity and other societal challenges.

“This is what he said. Many bloggers saw this, but they would not project it. But he spoke against the evils,” Bamiloye wrote.

He also dismissed calls for Adeboye, who is 84 years old, to personally lead street protests.

“For all those who are expecting an 84-year-old man, servant of God, to lead a protest against a government, this does not make sense by virtue of his age and by the mandate of his calling,” he said.

Addressing comparisons with a 2020 protest march involving Adeboye, Bamiloye explained that the action was part of a coordinated directive by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), rather than an individual political demonstration.

“It was the instruction of CAN and PFN for every church to stage a protest against insecurity in the nation, and he complied and led his denomination too, just as some other churches did,” he stated.

Bamiloye added that the primary responsibility of the Church is to pray for peace and seek divine intervention in the affairs of the nation.

The RCCG Public Relations team had earlier clarified that a widely circulated photograph showing Adeboye holding a placard was taken during a peaceful prayer walk against insecurity in 2020 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The church also reiterated that Adeboye remains politically neutral and does not endorse any political party, while encouraging members to participate responsibly in the democratic process.
