Speaking ahead of the party’s primary election, Fubara described himself as a competent and energetic candidate committed to restoring peace, stability and economic prosperity in the state.
He lamented what he described as the political and economic decline of Rivers State, saying the state had lost investments, opportunities and dignity.
“We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people. We have lost our pride as Rivers people,” he said.
Fubara called for a political “uprising” across party and ethnic lines to reclaim the state and return it to what he described as its former status as the “treasure base of the nation.”
According to him, Rivers State must continue to respect its zoning arrangement by allowing the Rivers South-East Senatorial District complete its eight-year tenure.
He pledged to serve only a four-year term to preserve the rotation principle.
“I have vowed to do just a four-year one-term tenure to bring the expected prosperity and development in Rivers State,” he said.
Fubara warned that altering the state’s rotational arrangement could create a dangerous political precedent and threaten the relative peace the state has enjoyed over the years.
He also urged supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state to mobilise for the NDC primary election.
The governorship aspirant further appealed to what he described as his “elder brother” in the race to step down in support of what he called “the uprising of the people” aimed at reclaiming the state.
Fubara said he remained confident that he possessed the experience and competence needed to restore peace and drive development in Rivers State.
