Shehu described the development as a sign of desperation and raised concerns over Pantami’s reported political move.
In a post shared on X on Tuesday, he questioned Pantami’s political journey and past involvement with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Wonders shall never end. Desperate measures in desperate moments. Interesting times ahead,” he wrote.
Shehu alleged that Pantami was a strong supporter of the APC and benefited from the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also claimed that Pantami played influential roles during the Buhari administration and supported policies he said contradicted provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act.
According to Shehu, leaders and supporters of the APC frequently blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP for national challenges during the party’s years in government.
“Pantami was part of the APC team that blamed Jonathan and PDP at every opportunity,” he stated.
He argued that Pantami should publicly apologise to Jonathan over past criticisms.
“The most sensible and decent thing for Pantami to do is to publicly apologise to President Jonathan for his past unwarranted condemnations,” he said.
Shehu also criticised what he described as political inconsistency, saying it would be surprising to see Pantami align with political figures and a platform he previously opposed.
“It will be a great pleasure to see, listen and hear a Pantami promoting an Ebele, the same Ebele who his master, benefactor, PMB so vilified,” he added.
He further warned political parties to exercise caution in accepting high-profile defectors without scrutiny.
According to him, public figures should reflect carefully on their political decisions and motivations.
Pantami has yet to publicly respond to the reports or Shehu’s comments.
