FRSC deploys 950 personnel for Eid-el-Kabir operations in Kwara

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kwara State Sector Command, has deployed 950 personnel across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to ensure safer highways and free flow of traffic.

The deployment includes officers, marshals, special marshals and first responders as part of a special patrol operation scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, 2026.

The command also deployed 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances and a 70-tonne tow truck for emergency response and traffic management during the festive period.

The Sector Public Education Officer, Olayinka Basambo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

He said the deployment followed directives from the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kabiru Kazeem, to strategically position personnel across major highways, cities and traffic-prone areas within Ilorin and other parts of the state.

“The deployment is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, ensuring prompt rescue response, clearing obstructions and improving traffic flow throughout the festive period,” Basambo said.

He added that the command would intensify public enlightenment campaigns at motor parks, markets, religious centres and other public locations to promote safe driving habits.

Kazeem warned motorists to obey traffic regulations, stressing that enforcement would be intensified during the celebration.

He listed offences targeted during the operation to include speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, route violations, lane indiscipline, tyre violations, seatbelt offences, use of mobile phones while driving and carrying passengers alongside goods.

“The objective of this operation is not only enforcement but also the protection of lives and property during the festive season,” Kazeem said.

He added that marshals had been stationed at strategic locations across major roads in the state to monitor traffic and respond promptly to emergencies.

“Only the living celebrate,” the sector commander warned, urging motorists to drive responsibly and comply with road safety regulations during the Eid-el-Kabir period.
