The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unanimously adopted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as its consensus candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Kano State.
The endorsement was made at a large-scale party congress held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, which attracted thousands of delegates, supporters and political stakeholders across the state.
Party leaders said the decision was aimed at strengthening unity within the APC ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Presenting the motion for the governor’s adoption, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, commended Yusuf’s leadership style and described his administration as one that has restored public confidence in governance.
He said the governor’s performance across key sectors had made him the preferred choice for continuity.
The motion was seconded by Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, who said party members were united behind the governor and ready to secure victory in the next election.
Following the adoption, delegates at the congress unanimously affirmed Governor Yusuf as the APC’s sole consensus governorship candidate amid applause from party supporters.
The congress chairman, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, described the endorsement as a reflection of the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment.
He expressed confidence that the party would achieve electoral success in Kano State, noting that the APC remained committed to sustaining development across the state.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf thanked party leaders and supporters for their confidence and pledged to intensify efforts in delivering more development projects.
He assured residents of continued transparent and inclusive governance, saying his administration would remain focused on improving living standards and economic growth.
The event ended with renewed calls for unity among party members as supporters celebrated what was described as a show of solidarity ahead of the election.
