Arsenal secured a crucial away win at the London Stadium on Sunday after Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute to strengthen the club’s title challenge.
However, the match ended in controversy after West Ham appeared to have scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser through Callum Wilson.
The goal was eventually ruled out after a lengthy VAR review following protests from Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.
Referee Chris Kavanagh was asked to review the incident on the pitchside monitor before disallowing the goal for a foul by Pablo in the build-up.
Reacting to the decision on SuperSport’s Monday Night Football, Ikpeba accused Arsenal of frequently using aggressive physical tactics during set pieces without punishment.
“VAR is failing to fulfill its intended purpose in the English Premier League,” Ikpeba said.
“When discussing shoving and pushing, the one club that engages in it more than others is Arsenal. They intimidate defences and face no consequences,” he added.
The former Nigerian international also questioned the time taken by officials to arrive at the decision.
“So in this instance, it is merely a slight touch. And for VAR to take five minutes to reach a decision…” he said.
According to reports by the BBC, West Ham are expected to contact the Professional Game Match Officials Limited over the disallowed goal and seek clarification on the officiating decision.
The result kept Arsenal firmly in the Premier League title race, while West Ham were left frustrated by the late controversy.
