The NDC had reportedly zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South for a single four-year term, a move believed to favour Obi as the party’s prospective presidential candidate.
The arrangement was also said to have received support from Kwankwaso, who is being speculated as a possible running mate.
Reacting in a statement on Sunday, Fani-Kayode questioned whether Kwankwaso genuinely believed Obi would honour a one-term agreement if elected president.
He accused the former Anambra State governor of repeatedly abandoning political allies and parties.
According to him, Obi “betrayed every single leader he has had since 1999 and abandoned every single one of the five political parties whose platform he has used or attempted to use to run for one office or the other over the last 27 years.”
Fani-Kayode said he had always considered Kwankwaso an intelligent politician but expressed surprise at his alleged support for the arrangement.
“Peter will dribble him like a yoyo and then drop him like a hot potato like he has with everyone else he has worked and run with,” he said.
He further argued that Obi would not willingly leave office after one term if he eventually gained power.
“If a man like that ever gets power be rest assured that he will NEVER leave it let alone do so after four years,” he added.
The former minister also dismissed the electoral chances of the NDC ahead of the 2027 election, expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu would secure re-election.
“Thank God NDC has no hope of winning and that Peter will be roundly defeated by PBAT in a few months time,” he stated.
Fani-Kayode further alleged that Obi’s political strategy was aimed at splitting Southern votes and preventing the South-West from retaining power for eight uninterrupted years.
“His attempt to divide the votes of the South and deny our President and the South-West of having eight straight years in power shall fail,” he said.
