Opposition leaders accused of political inconsistency as APC dismisses defection claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and ex-Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing their recent political moves as lacking seriousness and direction.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who spoke on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, dismissed allegations that the ruling party was behind the crisis rocking opposition platforms.

Morka’s reaction follows the decision of Obi and Kwankwaso to exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and align with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal disputes within the former.

Faulting their position, the APC spokesman argued that the opposition figures were merely seeking a convenient pathway to secure presidential tickets ahead of future elections.

According to him, persistent defections among opposition leaders undermine their credibility and raise concerns about their commitment to building a stable political alternative.

He further noted what he described as a pattern of inconsistency, alleging that Obi, who had previously criticised political defections, now appears to be engaging in similar conduct.

Morka maintained that the APC had no involvement in the internal wranglings of opposition parties, insisting that such crises were self-inflicted due to conflicting interests.

He described the situation within the ADC as a “self-destructive process,” adding that the ruling party remains focused on governance and national development despite criticisms from opposition elements.
