‘Political nomad’ — Tinubu’s aide knocks Peter Obi over ADC exit

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing him as a “political nomad.”

Onanuga made the remarks on Sunday via his X handle while reacting to Obi’s announcement that he had left the party over internal crises and what he termed a toxic political environment.

Obi had earlier stated that his decision was not driven by personal grievances against ADC leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, but by persistent legal disputes and internal divisions within the party.

Reacting, Onanuga dismissed Obi’s explanation as “self-serving” and urged the public to disregard it.

“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob,” he wrote.

The presidential aide further accused Obi of avoiding political contests within the party, particularly against key figures.

“Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC. He pursues the easy road… like in 2023,” he added.

Onanuga also alleged that Obi frequently shifts blame to the government without self-reflection, concluding his remarks with, “Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race.”
