Obi, Kwankwaso Storm Dickson’s Residence, Signal Move to NDC

Former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday arrived at the residence of the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, in what appears to be a strategic move to align with the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The duo, who were accompanied by loyalists and political associates, reportedly arrived at about 5:14 p.m., drawing attention from supporters who chanted solidarity songs linked to the Obi/Kwankwaso political movement.

Their visit comes hours after Obi confirmed his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing deepening internal crises and external interference within the party.

In a personally signed statement, the former Anambra State governor clarified that his decision was not borne out of personal grievances against party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he described as respected figures.

Obi, however, raised concerns over what he termed a recurring pattern of destabilisation within opposition parties, alleging that forces responsible for the crisis in the Labour Party were beginning to manifest within the ADC.

He lamented that Nigeria’s political environment has grown increasingly hostile to reform-driven leadership, marked by intimidation, insecurity, and systemic discouragement.

According to him, the situation is further worsened by a societal mindset that misconstrues humility as weakness and discourages fairness and inclusiveness in governance.

Obi maintained that his political ambition is rooted not in personal power but in the desire to see a Nigeria where citizens are secure, economically stable, and treated with dignity.

He also alluded to the emotional and psychological strain of navigating Nigeria’s political terrain, noting that sincere efforts at reform are often misunderstood or resisted.

Despite the challenges, Obi reaffirmed his belief in the country’s potential, insisting that Nigeria can still achieve responsible leadership anchored on justice, equity, and compassion.

As of press time, there has been no official statement from the NDC leadership regarding the outcome of the meeting.
