Momodu denies VP ambition with Atiku, backs opposition coalition

Media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed reports linking him to a vice-presidential bid alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that he has no intention of contesting in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Momodu described the claim as a distraction and urged his supporters and party members to disregard it.

“When I first received this poster from a friend, I dismissed it as a joke designed to distract us… I will be most grateful if my friends and party members can do me the honour of ignoring this joke,” he said.

He added, “I’m not running for any race again. I’m interested in humbly supporting the coalition of political parties, to work together and oust the incompetent APC government.”

Momodu said his focus would be on supporting credible candidates within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that the party has “more than enough leaders” capable of contesting for top offices.

His comments come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures exploring coalition strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He also criticised what he described as the “bullying” of Atiku Abubakar, recalling that Labour Party’s Peter Obi had previously run alongside him in the 2019 presidential election.

Momodu further called for civility in political discourse, cautioning against abusive rhetoric across party lines, including attacks directed at President Bola Tinubu.

He maintained that he would support whichever candidate emerges from his party, emphasising that his priority remains coalition-building within the opposition bloc.
