Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ismail Yusuf, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
Yusuf said the government is exploring policy options to cushion the impact of fuel price increases on carriers, including those designated for Hajj operations.
He noted that the commission is engaging key stakeholders across the aviation sector to ensure smooth logistics and efficient coordination ahead of the exercise.
“Discussions around operational logistics, particularly aviation fuel, remain a standard component of pre-Hajj coordination and are being handled within established frameworks,” he said.
The NAHCON boss dismissed reports suggesting reluctance by some airlines to participate due to high fuel costs, describing such claims as false and speculative.
“For the avoidance of doubt, all necessary arrangements are progressing as planned, and the inaugural flight for the 2026 Hajj exercise is scheduled for May 3, 2026,” Yusuf stated.
He added that government intervention aims to strike a balance between preventing airline losses and shielding pilgrims from excessive airfare.
According to him, all contracted carriers have reaffirmed their commitment to safe and efficient operations, even as engagements with regulators and other stakeholders continue.
Yusuf expressed confidence that, despite prevailing economic pressures, both outbound and return flights would be conducted seamlessly, assuring pilgrims of a smooth Hajj experience.
