PDP Dismisses Allegations of Financial Misconduct Against Makinde, Labels Claims ‘Speculative’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has dismissed allegations of financial impropriety levelled against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing them as baseless, misleading and lacking in credible evidence.

The party said the claims, reportedly made by a group known as the Save Oyo Movement (SOM), alleged that the governor spent billions of naira in public funds on political activities.

Reacting in a statement, the Oyo State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Micheal Ogunsina, said the allegations were nothing more than misinformation and unfounded accusations.

Ogunsina noted that the figures being circulated by the group were speculative and unsupported by any verifiable documentation.

He stated that, “there is no credible document, budgetary reference, procurement record or audit trail to substantiate the claims being made.”

The party maintained that public finance management in the state is guided by established legal and institutional frameworks, including appropriation laws, due process mechanisms and oversight by relevant authorities.

According to the statement, expenditures of government funds are neither arbitrary nor concealed, stressing that due diligence is followed in all financial dealings.

The PDP further described attempts to link funds earmarked for specific public interventions to political activities as misleading and insensitive.

It warned against trivialising matters relating to public welfare, especially those involving victims of tragic incidents, for the sake of political narratives.

The statement added that the Makinde administration has remained consistent in promoting transparency, accountability and responsible governance in the management of public resources.

It also highlighted that the state has recorded measurable progress in key sectors, including infrastructure, workers’ welfare, education, healthcare and security.

“These achievements are visible, verifiable and indicative of prudent resource management,” the party said.

While affirming the right of citizens and groups to demand accountability, the PDP stressed that such demands must be based on facts and pursued through appropriate channels.

It cautioned that making sweeping and unsubstantiated allegations in the media undermines public discourse and weakens democratic engagement.

The party, therefore, urged members of the public to disregard the claims and rely on verified information from credible sources.

It reiterated the state government’s commitment to transparency, lawful governance and sustained development.
