Competent party sources disclosed that Obasa’s governorship ambition has effectively been foreclosed after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC) reportedly backed the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, as the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
It was further gathered that Obasa, in a bid to advance his political career, had also explored the possibility of contesting the Lagos West Senatorial seat. However, his ambition hit a brick wall as he failed to secure the backing of key stakeholders within the party, who are said to be favourably disposed to the return of the incumbent senator, Idiat Adebule.
Party insiders noted that the leadership’s position was influenced, in part, by considerations of gender representation, with Adebule currently the only serving female senator from the South-West.
Amid these setbacks, sources hinted that Obasa has been advised to consider a bid for the House of Representatives, specifically the Agege Federal Constituency seat presently occupied by Hon. Wale Ahmed.
While the development is yet to receive official confirmation, it signals ongoing strategic calculations within the APC ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
