Osun 2026: APC Fires Back at Salam Over ‘Weakling’ Remark on Oyebamiji

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Thursday, came hard on a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Salam, over his description of the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, as a “weakling.”

Salam, who represents Ede North/Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, had during a television interview earlier in the week, claimed that Oyebamiji lacked the political strength to win even his local government in the forthcoming governorship election.

But in a swift reaction, the APC, through its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described Salam’s comment as “uncharitable, baseless and reckless.”

The party said Oyebamiji remains a tested and accomplished individual whose track record in both private and public service stands in sharp contrast to what it termed the “uninspiring political leaning” of Salam and his preferred candidate.

“We are not surprised at Salam’s outburst. It is a reflection of his political frustration and the fear of the imminent defeat awaiting his political camp,” the statement read.

APC further alleged that Salam’s remarks were influenced by the disappointment following the party’s refusal to accommodate alleged overtures from the camp of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The party maintained that no amount of criticism or political attack would alter what it described as the “clear and inevitable outcome” of the next governorship election in the state.

According to Olabisi, the performance of the current administration over the past years has failed to inspire confidence among the electorate, insisting that Osun people are ready for a new direction.

The APC, therefore, urged the electorate to disregard what it called “diversionary comments” and remain focused on choosing credible leadership in the forthcoming poll.
