The incident occurred on April 13 along the Potiskum–Damaturu road while inmates were being transferred from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum to Damaturu.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Adamu, the vehicle conveying the inmates was involved in a crash, and amid rescue efforts, one of the prisoners fled the scene.
The escaped inmate has been identified as 30-year-old Dahiru Mohammed, a native of Askiwari village via Tarmuwa. Authorities described him as dangerous and warned members of the public to avoid any contact.
The Correctional Service has urged anyone with useful information on his whereabouts to report immediately to the nearest police station or correctional facility.
Officials also warned that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence punishable under the law.
