Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, visited the monarch on Monday alongside his running mate, Kayode Adereti; the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal; and other party leaders and supporters.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the palace, Moses Olafare, the delegation was warmly received by the Ooni, who was joined by other traditional rulers and dignitaries during the visit.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, Oyebamiji said his decision to seek royal blessings was informed by the counsel of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who advised him to consult the traditional institution before commencing his campaign.
He noted that Ile-Ife, regarded as the cradle of the Yoruba people, holds spiritual significance, adding that past leaders had benefitted from similar royal blessings.
“I informed Mr President that I would be coming to seek royal blessings before flagging off our campaign, and he encouraged me to do so,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate pledged commitment to good governance, promising to prioritise the development of Osun State and Ile-Ife if elected.
Responding, the Ooni commended Oyebamiji for his humility and respect for traditional authority, describing such traits as essential for leadership.
He, however, urged political actors to promote unity and avoid division, stressing that traditional rulers remain neutral and belong to all political stakeholders.
“An Oba is not a politician. We belong to everyone. After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds,” the monarch said.
The Ooni also called for reconciliation among political stakeholders and urged Nigerians to continue to support President Tinubu’s administration.
The monarch later offered prayers and traditional blessings for Oyebamiji, seeking wisdom, guidance and success as he prepares for the governorship election in Osun State.
