INEC’s ICT Director, Lawrence Bayode, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television, stating that only verifiable evidence would guide the commission’s findings.
“We are taking this further… We rely on evidence. We are also going to be engaging… forensic experts,” Bayode said.
He stressed that screenshots and unverified online materials would not influence the investigation.
“I will not base my judgments on screenshots. I will not allow that to guide my conclusion,” he added.
According to him, INEC has already engaged security agencies and is considering independent forensic analysis to determine the authenticity of the accounts and content involved.
Bayode also cautioned against relying on outputs from AI tools like Grok, noting that such systems can produce inaccurate results.
“GROK honestly can hallucinate just like any modern artificial intelligence system,” he said.
The controversy centres on resurfaced social media posts allegedly linked to the INEC chairman, including interactions tied to a 2023 post by APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel.
INEC has denied the claims, insisting that its chairman does not operate any personal X account and has never engaged in partisan political activity.
The commission described the allegations as part of a broader pattern of digital impersonation and misinformation, adding that efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible.
