Kwara varsity promotes 45 to professorial cadre

The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has approved the promotion of 45 academic staff to the professorial cadre.

The approval was ratified at the institution’s 78th regular council meeting held on April 1, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Acting Director of University Relations, Saeedat Aliyu, on Thursday.

Of the total number, 20 were elevated to the rank of full professor, while 25 others were promoted to associate professor.

Breakdown of the promotions shows that the Faculty of Engineering and Technology produced the highest number of new professors, with six academics elevated across various specialisations, including materials engineering, renewable energy, and water resources.

The Faculties of Arts and Agriculture recorded four and three new professors respectively, while the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences produced four. The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences also had new entrants into the professorial rank.

Among those promoted are Professor Henry Olawale Sawyerr (Environmental Health Toxicology), Professor Olayinka Jelil Yusuf (Agricultural Extension), Professor Tajudeen Yusuf (Arabic Linguistics), and Professor Sikiru Ottan Abdulrahman (Materials Engineering), among others.

The statement noted that the promotions reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research development, and capacity building across disciplines.

It also listed several academics elevated to associate professorship across faculties, including experts in artificial intelligence, finance, theology, engineering, and environmental sciences.

KWASU said the exercise underscores its continued investment in human capital development and its drive to strengthen teaching, research, and innovation within the institution.
