Akpabio made the appeal during the APC South-South zonal congress held in Asaba, where party leaders and governors from across the region gathered to reaffirm unity and strengthen party structures.
According to him, the South-South has benefited significantly under the current administration, particularly with the emergence of the Senate President from the zone, a development he described as historic after about 45 years.
He noted that the region, which had only one APC governor in 2023, has witnessed stronger political alignment with the party, adding that such progress should translate into greater electoral support in the next presidential poll.
Akpabio said: “The question is no longer whether APC will win in 2027, but what number of votes the South-South will contribute. The zone must aim to deliver the highest votes among all six geopolitical zones.”
He further praised the zonal leadership of the party under Victor Giadom for maintaining stability and unity within the party.
Also speaking, Sheriff Oborevwori described the South-South as a strategic bloc in Nigeria’s political landscape, stressing that the unity currently enjoyed within the APC in the region is unprecedented.
He said the congress was not merely a political gathering but a clear indication that the party in the zone remains organised, united and prepared for future electoral contests.
The congress also produced new zonal executives through consensus, with Victor Giadom returned as APC National Vice Chairman for the South-South.
Other officials elected include Ita Udosen as zonal secretary, Samuel Nwanosike as publicity secretary, and Edward Ajang as organising secretary.
