Ondo ADC Suspends State Chairman, Appoints Ex-Lawmaker to Restore Party Unity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State has suspended its state chairman, Mr. Wole Ademoyegun, and appointed former lawmaker, Hon. Sola Ebiwonjumi, as his replacement in a move aimed at resolving internal party tensions.

The development was announced during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Akure, where the 18 local government chairmen and leaders of the party’s coalition blocs addressed newsmen.

Party leaders said the action was necessary to reposition the party amid growing disagreements over its structure and leadership style. They alleged that the Ademoyegun-led administration had undermined efforts to build a united and formidable party.

The four major blocs within the ADC in Ondo, namely: the PDP faction under Prof. Bode Ayorinde, the Labour Party/Obidient Movement led by Prof. Biodun Ambode, the ADC aborigines group headed by Barr. Nejo Myson, and the Omoluabi Group under Hon. Femi Johnson, expressed concern over unilateral decisions by the former chairman.

“Persistent imposition and disregard for collective decisions have made meaningful progress impossible. After exhausting all avenues for reconciliation, we resolved to remove the chairman to restore order and confidence within the party,” the statement read.

The leadership further called for the urgent constitution of a broad-based State Executive Committee under Ebiwonjumi’s leadership, in collaboration with local government and ward chairmen, to ensure equitable representation.

Prof. Johnson Ambode dismissed claims of factionalism, insisting that the suspension of Ademoyegun has resolved any lingering crisis. He also affirmed that the national body of the ADC is fully aware of the action, which was taken following due process to strengthen the party.

“The crisis has been addressed. The leadership and stakeholders have come together to reposition the party for progress,” he added.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to justice, transparency, and collective leadership as it prepares for its forthcoming congress.
