Makinde made the declaration on Monday while addressing PDP stakeholders drawn from all 33 Local Government Areas at the Local Government House Secretariat in Ibadan.
The clarification follows a recent meeting in Kano State where Makinde, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson were hosted by the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The governor assured party members that the PDP remains relevant and would play an active role in the 2027 general elections. “Those saying PDP will die are mistaken. PDP will be on the ballot in 2027, and we will produce candidates for all elective positions, from the state to the national level. We will remain in PDP and win,” he said.
He stressed the importance of unity within the party, urging leaders to adopt consensus-building strategies ahead of the elections. Makinde directed party officials across all zones to hold meetings aimed at resolving differences and ensuring harmonious arrangements.
“They want to take Oyo State at all costs, but it is our responsibility to ensure we bend our rules where necessary to accommodate one another,” he added.
The governor also announced that all first-term members of the Oyo State House of Assembly would automatically receive tickets for re-election, while returning members would be considered based on existing agreements and rotational arrangements.
“This battle is not just about 2027; it is about the future of democracy and generations to come. Success is achieved through struggle. Can we fight through this? Yes. Can we win? Absolutely,” Makinde emphasised.
During the high-level stakeholders’ meeting, he reaffirmed that the PDP remains the platform for all aspirants seeking elective positions in 2027. The party will adopt a consensus-based approach in selecting candidates, with unity and internal cohesion as guiding principles to sustain PDP’s dominance in the state.
