Pressure mounts as Abdullahi Sule reconsiders Nasarawa North Senate race

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has indicated that he may contest for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections, citing growing pressure from political stakeholders across the state.

The governor made this known during a meeting with members of the state executive council who paid him a visit in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area.

Sule explained that although he had earlier resolved not to seek any elective office after completing his second term, repeated appeals from political leaders and supporters have forced him to reconsider his position.

According to him, he had initially planned to support another aspirant for the senatorial seat, but was persuaded to join the race after the same aspirant urged him to personally contest.

It would be recalled that the governor had in 2024 publicly declared that he had no ambition to run for the senate after leaving office, insisting that he intended to focus on private life after completing his tenure.

However, his media aide, Ali Abare, clarified that the governor’s latest position should not yet be interpreted as an official declaration.

He noted that Sule is still consulting widely before taking a final decision.

According to Abare, the governor only informed members of the executive council that he was considering responding to the calls by supporters who believe his experience is needed at the national assembly.

He added that changing circumstances in politics often influence decisions, stressing that “life is dynamic” and that the governor would make his official position known at the appropriate time.

Political observers say Sule’s possible entry into the race could reshape early calculations ahead of the 2027 senatorial contest in Nasarawa State.
