Osimhen Faces Surgery After Arm Fracture in Galatasaray’s UCL Exit Against Liverpool

Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, is set to undergo surgery after fracturing his arm during the Turkish side’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash on Wednesday.

According to a club statement on Thursday, medical examinations at a hospital confirmed the fracture. Osimhen suffered the injury following an aerial collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate in the early stages of the match. Konate landed on Osimhen’s arm, forcing the Nigerian international to remain on the ground in visible pain. Despite the discomfort, Osimhen continued until halftime with his forearm wrapped, but he was substituted at the start of the second half as Liverpool dominated the game.

The statement added:

“In the first half of our away match against Liverpool, Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half. However, following checks at halftime, he was withdrawn to prevent further damage. Hospital examinations later confirmed a fracture in his right forearm, which has now been casted. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days.”

Osimhen’s replacement, Noa Lang, also sustained a serious cut to his right thumb, but unlike Osimhen, Lang will undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Turkey.

Before his injury, Osimhen had been pivotal to Galatasaray’s Champions League campaign, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 10 matches, earning four man-of-the-match awards.

The club now faces a critical period in planning their UCL campaign without their talismanic striker.
