Malami Defends Tenure, Says He Has No Regret Over Actions as AGF

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has declared that he has no regrets over decisions taken during his time in office, despite his ongoing legal battles and recent detention by security agencies.

Malami made the statement shortly after regaining freedom, following the fulfillment of bail conditions granted by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The former minister, alongside his wife and son, is currently facing multiple charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged money laundering offences. They have, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He had earlier been remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre before his re-arrest by operatives of the Department of State Services shortly after his release.

Speaking in Hausa during an interview, Malami described his experience in detention as part of destiny, saying he remains prepared to challenge all allegations against him in court.

According to him, security operatives violated his constitutional rights by conducting searches on his residences and business premises without his knowledge or presence.

He argued that the law guarantees him the right to witness such searches and be aware of any items inspected or removed during investigations.

“I have spent time in EFCC custody, Kuje Prison and DSS detention. I see everything as the will of God, but I will continue to defend myself,” he said.

“They searched my homes and business locations without informing me. Constitutionally, I have the right to be present during such searches.”

Malami insisted that recent events have not changed his position on his stewardship as justice minister.

“I have no regret over what I did while serving as minister,” he added.

The former AGF also maintained that his legal battle is far from over and vowed to pursue every lawful means to clear his name.
