JUST IN: Service chiefs, NEMA DG arrive Maiduguri after Tinubu’s directive
Nigeria’s top military leadership has arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive ordering service chiefs to relocate to the state over renewed insurgent attacks.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), alongside the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), touched down at the Maiduguri Air Force Base on Wednesday.
They were received by the Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, and other senior military officers at about 11 a.m.
The delegation proceeded directly to the Theatre Command Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North-East.
The development follows a directive by President Tinubu ordering security chiefs to move to the frontline and take charge of operations amid a resurgence of Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks and bombings in the region.
After inspecting a Guard of Honour at the Maimalari Military Cantonment, the service chiefs went into a closed-door meeting.
The CDS is expected to brief journalists after the meeting.
