FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-el-Fitr Celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration, signaling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The declaration was made by the Federal Ministry of Interior through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to continue upholding the values of peace, love, sacrifice, tolerance, and generosity which were emphasized during the fasting period.

He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for sustained peace, unity, and national progress.

The minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged by extending acts of kindness during the holiday period.

According to him, the Federal Government remains committed to promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening national unity among all Nigerians
